The vision for the Calvary Chapel Surfing Association (C.C.S.A.) began in early 1982, following a brief encounter between a pastor at Calvary Chapel of Seal Beach (now Calvay Chapel Pacific Coast), and N.S.S.A. surfer.
The surfer had just won a Seal Beach contest as the result of an awesome tube ride. He was telling some friends how, "Jesus made it all happen." Shortly after, "Team Calvary" was formed.
The team eventually broke up, but the desire to promote surf contests continued. After a successful summer contest in August 1984, we decided, "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right."
We began buying contest equipment, structured a format, trained judges, contacted officials, designed a logo, printed entry forms, and in the fall of '84 the CCSA was born. Our primary objective is to provide a quality contest at a local level. A contest based on Christian principles of preferring and honor one another, while at the same time maintaining a Spirit of Competitivenes.
